Cafe Stories in Bedford - by Waitress in Residence Ania Bas and people of Bedford & Laura Trevail
co-produced by Bedford Creative Arts
During early summer 2010 I worked as a waitress in residence at two of the towns centre's bustling cafes: La Piazza and Caffe Amore.
Between carrying cups of tea and cake, clearing and cleaning tables I chatted with the cafes' customers. People told me many stories that became the source material for the pages of a book.
Each donated story became the topic of discussion between myself and the artist and writer (and the editor of this book) Laura Trevail. The notes between Laura and myself also appear on each page, below each story, and together with the footnotes they elaborate on the stories and the editing process.
The stories, published in a disjointed form with one story per page, were presented back to people of Bedford on 24th and 25th July 2010 in Bedford Creative Arts HQ.
